I'm in decisions with the other-half (dev) about what to get...

So - sorta in the same position as you really. I want mine on my back I think...

i have only one, and it's an upside-down longhorn (the actual university of texas symbol) on my right bicep...i went to oklahoma, so, it's like the coolest tat ever here....got in on a bet with a friend of mine who went to ut....if i lost the bet i had to get a longhorn, if i won the bet, he had to get OU tattooed on him....he and i aren't friends anymore cuz he refused to understand that i held my end of the bet up because i got a longhorn, it's just upside down.....and in ou colors..........:)

Yeah....

You know where Angel has his tat? Well, we're thinking of getting one done together...same thing...but we've got to come up with an idea about what to have...

Tat parlors have loads of stuff...you could go have a look for ideas! There's also bound to be loads on the interbrain!

*agrees wholeheartedly about the pain*

That sounds lovelly, My Fella would never go for that, if he got one done it would be something to do with Celtic football, i want to get one where Alyssa Milano has one.

Was it sore when you got your done JJ?

jjnado
05-10-2006, 01:34 PM
nah didn't hurt much except when they filled in the big part of the longhorn....kind of went over it over and over with the pen/needle...that got a bit irritating, but, the ink was crimson, and well, blood is crimson, so i couldn't tell if i was bleeding, lol..probably helped with the psychological part...didn't hurt and wasn't sore at all after...it's not like they push into the muscle to bruise it...they're pros, and i got it from the guy who gave three members of No Doubt their tats....so, he knew what he was doing...it was kind of a pinching thing, but i really didn't notice cuz i was talking to someone about what the hell the tat i was getting was...lol...back home in orange county, they had no idea why i wanted this upside down longhorn on my arm :P jj

Oooh I love all these tatoos. I never got one. I always went back and forth on it. So everytime I went to the tat shop I always came back with another piercing. My debate was would I still want it later in life? Piercings I could alway remove. I always kinda liked the pain.;)

yeah the first one is angel's design... i stole it from him.... My familys crest or shield or coat of arms if you wish is a gryffon and i waned something for my last name because i like it and i love my family and I dont particularly like the design on the crest so i stuck with angel design
The eye on my foot is the eye or horus meant to protect from evil spirits and represents the moon. (i love egyptology)
The wheel is the celtic wheel of being. In Ireland is suppsoed to be the way Ireland is divided similarly into Leinster, Munster, Connaught, Ulster and Meath. But alas i am not irish in other beliefs it means The four elements united by the fifth middle ring being balance.
And the heart with the knot is supposed to represent love and ans how it binds people together

First one is on my right arm
Top one means true/real/sincere, the bottom one means cool

Next one is on my left arm, it's a soulsword of my own design
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/devlost/tatt2.jpg

The one after that was on my left chest, it's an Ankh i styled myself
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/devlost/tatt3.jpg

And the most recent one is on my right chest, which is a stylized phoenix i designed myself

I'm still waitng to get my quarter-life crisis Tattoo.

I have it all worked out where and what...I just need the fundage...and the guts. (I have an irrational fear of needles)

I want a red rose with a stem and two leaves (one on either side). On each leaf I want half of the Serenity Kanji. The tattoo is going to be on my lower back on the right side.

Under the rose I'd like to put my father's initals. Some of the AB's (and maybe a few of the goners) know my father passed away in 2004.

The idea behind this is my father represents my roots, the ground from which I grew and drew my strength, and in him and through the battles he fought with cancer, kidney failure, and heart disease, he was the truest definition in my life of Serenity. Having the kanji on the flower hopefully represents that I took what I saw in his life and death, and applied (or learn to apply) it to my own life.

The reason for the positoning of the tattoo, is I was completely approved to donate a kidney to my father before he passed. It was supposed to be the right one...so I would like the tat to go over my right kidney.

A less depressing aspect of the tattoo can be found in my favorite song by a country artist, Clay Walker.

"All her friends think she's too uptight to be true, when all along she's sitting on a blood red rose tattoo"

I made up a "glyph" of my name using different scripts from different languages I know.
on left shoulder blade (I wish now I'd done it on the centre of my back, but I wanted to leave room for my taniwha -dragon type monster)
I finally got the courage last year.
It wasn't too bad on the pain side, if you remember to breathe which I didn't and almost fainted.

I'm going to get another one when I go back home, before I leave for the Americas.
It is a "buy NZ made" sign surrounded by Koru (the things on the air NZ plane).
I'll post photos when I finish work and start logging in from home.
that is going on my right hip.

I saw a really cool one of a box kite in the wind.
it was pastel colours so girly without being too trite, and somthing a little different.

my mother said that it was going to hurt intensly and i would be in so much pain i wouldnt be able to do anything the rest of the day and id scream and cry and want to go to the hospital.. of course she didnt want me to get any so she overexaggerated I have reqally sharp nails so it just felt (on my calf and arms) like i had a ba ditc h and was scratchhing like mad. The heart i have was on a bone and its really thick so that one hurt a little bit more the position i had to sit in to get it(head just hanging over hurt th most though.. but my foot. That f-ing hurt the skin on your foot is so thin and where i got it kept going over a nerve and a muscle so my foot kept twitching and it hurt like hell to tense my muscles to keep from kicking Justin (my tattoo guy)
feet are gross so now mine is pretty

You also might want to think about placement - I chose the lower back because I can show people if I want to. Thinking back I think I would have shifted it to one side or the other, as I've since found out that there are very few anaesthesiologists (sp?) that will give epidurals if you're considering children. (With that much pain, there should be drugs.)

lady hacks away
05-11-2006, 12:31 PM
OMG so you had to go without an epidural? http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_1.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm824YYGB)

greeneyes

Not yet (thank god!!!) . If I do decide to have kids (when, whatever), it's pretty unlikely that they'll give me an epidural because of the location of my tat. There's some concern that ink would leak into the bloodstream (I kind of stopped listening after the "No epidural." thing, so can't give you the explanation.)

depending on where you get it, it will hurt more or less. My comparison point - for the 45 minutes it took, I had my nails sunk into my arm. Didn't hurt enough for me to break the skin. It was a very dull pain.

(It'll throb like crazy though for about 2 days after!! And driving - not so much the fun experience, as I sit very straight - had to slouch til it stopped. )

I have lots of tattoos, so I'll tell you size and what hurt the most, etc...
Also, pain wise, you have to remember that some inkers will drill you harder than others, thus upping the pain levels. For example, my guy, Larry, is really heavy handed, thus upping the pain, but also upping the pretty, and how long it lasts without touch-ups...

So, first- big ole octopus on my left shoulder, spanning down over (and under) upper arm, part of my back, and upper chest. This tattoo hurt like a bit@$!. Well, parts of it did anyway. Upper chest=ouch. Underneath the arm, near the armpit and down the underpart of arm? Ouch. There's an area of the tattoo where it goes down my torso, just under the left arm, and that area also hurt quite a bit.

Mandrake root, dancing- lower and mid back. This one was much less painful than the shoulder piece, but still had a good deal of ouch to it.

Flame-y anhk design, back of neck- I was about 17 when I got this, and it hurt, yeah, but my pain threshold was lower then, and I wasn't experienced with tattoos. If I was to get it now, I think it would be a breeze.

Lower left arm, ring of imps- not hardly painful at all. When the tattoo gun got near my elbow there was some pain, and you can tell by the shakiness of the outline. I had trouble keeping my arm still, as it was elevated AND hurting.

Skeleton curled up in fetal position, symbol for rebirth, lower inner right arm- almost painless.

The Dawn Treader ship on my left thigh- eh, it hurt sometimes, but not too bad.

Crap Eye of Isis, done with homemade gun when I was fifteen- don't ever do this. It looks like crap, and you will have to pay for a cover-up. Plus, homemade guns? HURT.

Stick and Poke pyramid sunset thing, right ankle- yeah, stick and pokes are even uglier than homemade gun tats. You wanna avoid this, but I'm sure you know that already.

Hee, hee! On Monday I'm getting started on my pirate ship on my right thigh, and the phoenix (fire bird) on my right shoulder. I'm pretty stoked.

Good luck with the tattooing. Hope all goes well. And remember to take care of the tattoo exactly as your artist instructs.

It's a nice treble clef though lady h....and you could follow it up with a bass clef lower down......(small of your back)!

charliethebloody
05-18-2006, 02:32 PM
aw kaosmalek, you should post pictures, I'd love to see the dawn treader one, is the pirate ship going to mirror it?

are the arms the least painful place then? I've made my own serenity design and want it on my lower back, but I get really bad lower back pain and am paranoid about them hitting a nerve or something, can someone tell me if thats a silly worry? cos I don't really know how deep they go...

I don't consider myself squeamish about pain but I'm just sensitive about my back. I had a lumbar puncture once and that was horrible, though obviously thats different because they're actually going into the spinal column...

greeneyes
05-18-2006, 02:43 PM
see my post above, Charlie, about where to put it on the back. It wasn't that bad at the small of the back, someone else had suggestions as well.

From what I understand, the back is a good spot, painwise, in general.

charliethebloody
05-18-2006, 03:02 PM
oh, sorry I'd skimmed that looking for pretty pictures :o

I'm not planning to have any children so that shouldn't be a problem (fingers crossed ;) ) and I'd much rather have it centred than to one side...

my other thought is that I want a red bio-hazard in the style of fray on my arm, but the problem with that is that is that although it would look great with a vest top or whatever, I'd never be able to wear a swanky dress without it showing. that wouldn't bother me now but it probably would in the future :(

Who wants them? Who has them? What do you have and where?

I have a Celtic Knot on my lower back. This one

http://desktophippie.googlepages.com/celtic-knot.jpg

Although mine is shaded to give it a kind of ribbon effect.

I would love to get a St. Bridget's Cross as I was born on St. Bridget's day,

http://www.mythmaiden.com/images/Wall_Decor/st._bridget%27s_cross_sm.jpg

but I'd be looking for something very simple and stylized. I've tried to draw something myself using three simple lines for each arm of the cross, arranged so they make the St. Bridget's cross pattern, but every time I try I think it looks like a swastika! NOT the look I'm going for. Maybe I'm being paranoid?

So... who else wants to talk about tattoos? Or can any talented goners help me with my tattoo problem?

I have an idea for your St Bridget's cross problem...
do you want colour and or tone or ust outline?
Also it will probably skew to the organic style at the moment it look a bit Art Deco like?
did you want it to have religious overtones, cause my relegious overtones come out a bit skewed to the general mainstream...

Cool!

I'd be looking for plain black outline, maybe with a little grey shading, as that would match the tattoo I have on my back. I'll likely get this one behind my left shoulder. I am, however, seriously considering getting it done in white ink, so outline would be best.

*edit* Aaaaaand I didn't answer the other questions. I don't mind it looking art deco, and it doesn't need to have religious overtones. That particular Bridget's cross is Pagan in origin anyway :P so it really doesn't need to be overtly Christian.

I forgot to ask what size? It depends on how much detail, but I've done a few designs, so you can mix and match or whatever, you'll probably need to get them touched up by the tatoo artist anyway.
I was thinking it would be cool in two tones; red oche and brown oche (more earth and straw like) but I like earth tones but dependent on your skin tone.

wonderlandwiggins
10-09-2008, 01:20 AM
i dont mind pain from that its actually quite soothing to me. my foot was relatively painful... yeah i have the design its just little differences between ankle or calf depending. ankle it would be smaller and on either side and calf one side bigger

greeneyes
10-09-2008, 01:21 AM
probably yes - anywhere the bone is more prevalent would be more painful.

Thinking ahead, wiggs, I'd say ankle - it should keep its shape longer. Your calf will eventually start to lose its tone (and then alice will be saggy. :( )

wonderlandwiggins
10-09-2008, 01:24 AM
yeah i have really muscular calves ... i know they wont always be that way. I have tattoos on bone areas like my clavicle bone that one hurt a little but nothing bad... ike this one lady when i went to get my first she was getting one at the same time and im sitting there smiling and she crying and saying how can you stand this

I'd prolly go for the calf, Wiggsy, only because I'm a big wuss and couldn't handle the ankle bone pain reverb - but it does depend on the size and shape - wherever you think it'll look best.

I want at least two more tattoos - a re-do on my simple black arm diamond, and a new, more complicated one on my left arm - which I keep designing, and then bagging the design and starting over.
