So things on the Goners front have been a bit quiet of late. I guess there's not a lot we can do about that.. or is there...
Actually, maybe. I guess I'm thinking that the movie may not be as close as we had hoped (well, I had hoped anyway).

So, what can we do to make some noise about the movie?
I'm guessing to get Joss' attention to show that we are interested in seeing it made, which I believe is even more special because we can honestly say we know nothing about the movie at all other then a general ide and character names.

I plan to promote Goners at BayCon. Si-ren, Lexigeek and I (plus Lexigeek's wife) are running the local Browncoat booth there, and it will be one of the things we will be talking to folks about.

We had flyers made up at WonderCon, we'll do something similar...

Can we somehow organise some kind of POLITE petition/letterwriting campaign so that when Joss is ready - the studio will see that there is already support from a fan base for the movie??? So it will be a green light for Joss.

OOH - I just thought of a cool name for our campaign "Greenlight for Joss" - or is that just lame?

While that sounds like a good idea, even this site's own administrator has left us in the dust. Somehow, I just don't think our voices will get heard by "the man". Maybe that's password defeat talking . . . I don't know. :(

There may be more than a grain of truth in what you say - but, without inflicting my Pollyannaishness on you - I've never been involved in something like this so close to it's beginning.
I don't see us becoming significantly less excited by the prospect of Goners - it may be a long haul but I think we can persevere - afterall, one small announcement or a little fragment of gossip could transform everything.

I think that being patient, and being resilient (sp?) and being here for Joss and doing our little bits as we come up with them is the best thing we have going for us.

They know. Joss is a proven commodity with a sizable fan base that follow him, not his specific projects, and then overlapping fanbases based on the worlds he has previously created.

As we saw with Serenity, that fan base is not large enough to support the making of anything but a low budget film. The studio will therefore want him to create a project they believe will have appeal beyond his fanbase.

There is nothing his fanbase can do to influence the studio for the good, because they know we're already in the bag. (On the other hand, fan-revolt at a given concept would worry them, as would bizarre fan behavior that might turn off the general public.)

I really don't think there is anything of value we can do at this stage, because our support isn't based on anything substantial that a non-fan could also be grabbed by. This ain't Snakes on a Plane. The studio will greenlight or not based on how good/popular they think the final product can be, not because a handful of people who haven't even read a logline promise to watch the movie fifty times apiece.

...But if StevieB gets a Goners crew set up over at the new Serenity board, we can probably make some noise over there...we're pretty good at that! And the more noise we make, the more attention we might be able to stir up for the movie, the website, whatever. Seems like a good idea to try, anyway! As Jayne would say, "I'm in!" :D

IF I go to PenguiCon and IF I stay at the hotel for one of the nights and IF I can get a decent enough print-out of the splash page, I'm posting it up on my door. I don't expect much out of it since I'll have a hard time finding any Browncoats much less bringing in any new Goners, but it'll be a way for me to get comfortable with the idea...

then...

IF I go to FanFest Canada this Labor Day and IF I have the time to do it, I'm going to make a door poster of the splash page saying Goners HQ. And all 'them Canadians' that show up will be welcome! Oh, and any other Merkins too!

So it's written down which means I'll really have to try instead of blowing it off*. But those are my ideas for makin' some quiet noise. Cuz it's psychologically impossible for me to make the louder kind of noise! :D

It's the ComicCon in Toronto over Labor Day weekend. Um, 1st weekend in September (can't remember if Canada has same holiday :confused: ). They have 4 parts - comix, horror, scifi, and ... ... er ... um, there's a thread somewhere called SFX Toronto that has more info cuz I can't for the life of me remember!

Like cabr1 said, Lioness, it's SFX, or rather the new all-encompassing name for SFX, Comic Book Expo, Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear, etc . . . Guess they finally decided having an event called the "Canadian National Expo" on at the same frikkin' time as the CNE was confusing to some people.

Lioness, as I believe I mentioned in the SFX and all things Canadian thread, was the mastermind behind our Firefly/Serenity fantable last year. So she is quite familiar with the expo, just not its recent name change.

I gather Whedon is doing a bit of script doctorin' with Goners at the moment. The script has already been sold to Universal for over a million dollars, so I'd say it's very likely the movie will enter production -- the question is when. 2007 is my guess. It is something I discussed with Mr Whedon last year, and basically, he didn't know which movie would go first. In fact, at stage, I probably knew slightly more on the gossip side than him. And that's not being big headed - that's just because I am the master of gossip.

GonersMovie.com is in the unusual position that it has a bit of a fan base -- before the movie has actually entered production. That doesn't happen. The site also appears 2nd on Google when you search for "Goners" now. How we utilise that, I don't know, but I've a feeling down the line a lot of effort people have made on this site is going to pay off in terms of attractive attention to the movie - already completely random people are being lead to this site by searching for other things you're all talking about (passwords is a common one...) and finding out about the movie like that.

It's quite weird. And, as Joss says, he makes his bed in weird. (Which is a bit of a misquote, but it's close enough for me).
