The Rep-You-Can't-Give Thread

I'm getting a bit tired of being told I have to "spread some rep around" before giving to certain people again. We're a small community. It's not so unusual to want to re-rep somebody.

So, not quite so private or cool, but here's a thread for when people want to give someone rep but the site won't allow them.

Cabr1 - thank you so much for trying to find the Milsean mint bars, no need to go to the dreaded other city - I expect it is a fruitless quest anyway!

greeneyes - I will email them and ask.

Great idea! I just tried to give rep to 3 different people and was told I couldn't. :mad: Now I can't remember what I was going to say! :confused:

EDIT: Btw, the dreaded city is only 3 miles away so when I feel more like going out I'll try. None of the candy/chocolate stores have web sites, damn them!

Is it saying 'you've given out enuf' or 'you need to spread it around'? If the former, not sure what's wrong. If the latter, maybe who you give rep to counts forever? So even if it's been a month since you gave rep to someone, it still won't let you do it again? :confused:

that might be true - I've noticed that if I've given Cab a rep on friday, it makes me spread the rep around. Tried to give rep on sunday or monday and got the "you must spread the rep before you give Cab some again" msg.

Okay. Yesterday, if I recall correctly, I went on a repping binge and rep'ed a whole bunch of people: Lilbird, greeneyes, Cabri, JJ, jls, holymother, dragoned, BigIrishHooligan, arae, littleblue, and possibly diso.

Just now I was able to rep holymother again, as well as cabri greeneyes and lilbird (I think).

Unless I got my days and people messed up (which is quite possible) I think it's only a 24 hour rule. :confused:

Anyhoo, I didnt know that until about ten years ago! I was working as a boom op, and my sound guy and I had it as private joke. I was the only one who could hear him talking in my headset, and I would be way up on a ladder balancing a boom on a hot set and they start filming...and he would start talking about merkins.
It was terribly hilarious.

That comment you made in rep responses about the guy from a flat area who couldn't take the forested northwest -- I can totally relate to that guy. I like forests in principal, but in practice? Not so much. Every time I find myself in any densely populated by trees or ground that goes up and down too much I find myself freaking out just a bit. "Where is the sun? I can't freakin' see anything! Too much up and down!" are thoughts that rumble through my brain.
I wish I could share a picture of the field across the road from our house with the sun shining on it right after a good rain, but sadly I am not there at the proper time of year for it this year. *sigh* It's so pretty...

Infinite diversity in infinite combinations. ;) Wouldn't be nearly as fun if everyone had identical likes, fears and fantasies.

I can empathize... there are strips of two lane highway cut through acres of forest land where the tree form walls several stories high. You can drive for miles in these narrow corridors of cool dancing shadows. I love it, but I can appreciate how one might find that claustrophobic.

I find I'm most comfortable in my home state of Tennessee. Rolling hills, tons of trees, etc. The smells, the lush greeness most of the year, the quality of light here---it's all comforting to me.

I've lived lots of places and never liked them as much as TN.
Oddly, I found the wide open sky of Denver oppressive. Like it was bearing down on me and I needed to find a tree to hide under. We lived in Wash Park because it was one of the few heavily treed areas of town.

I like to visit and explore other places, but for me there's truly no place like home.

The mountains here in North Carolina really speak to me. I have lived everywhere and this landscape speaks to me. I think it is because I grew up in Southern Germany and they resemble each other closely. The fall colors here are spectacular. Skiing here is a joke tho.

As for Colorado, I love the mountains there, the are so majestic, but they have an element of danger to them that my nice green rolly mountains don't. I love to ski (well fall down alot). My husband on the other other hand, scoffs at our Mountains (whimpy, he says) because he is from CO and grew up partially in Denver and partially on the Western Slope. The first time he took me to CO, I got such altitude sickness going over all the passes from Denver to Hotchkiss, I thought I would die.

The desert and beach are ok, but don't do alot for me.

Yes, my freshman year my parents and I drove from Kansas to North Carolina. Driving through the Appalachians my mother kept goading me to get my nose out of my book and take in some of the scenery along the way. Every time she did I responded in typical snotty teenage fashion, "But every time I look up it's just trees. Oh, look, more trees.:rolleyes: " Obnoxious, I know, but I still feel that way a bit. I like the occasional tree that can be enjoyed on its own merit. Put too many together and, well... Can't see the trees for the forest.

I grew up on a farm on the Great Plains. I can barely even stand living in cities, no matter how small. If I can't go outside and see from horizon to horizon I feel slighted. The skies at night on the plains are breathtaking -- scarcely any clouds and the whole panorama to look at.

I grew up in flat-as-a-pancake SE michigan (we'd go for rides on the freeway just to get hills ;)) but every summer we'd get sent down to our relatives south of Pittsburgh. My grandmother lived near the top of a mountain. From her backyard and especially the back bedroom windows you could look out across the valley to the mountain across the way which had a golf course on it. It was so pretty in the shimmering heat (we always went in august).

I liked both flat and mountainous places when I was in the army. The big sky-ness of Texas was cool but when I went for drives I'd always head to hill country.
