View Full Version : When will Goners get made?

Yeah, it's no fun thinking of all the ways Goners could not get made but it's kind of interesting too. And we all know I love polls! :D

WW is the Big Kahuna in our little Joss world. But occasionally the Gidgets do win out. (Boy, am I dating myself! :p ) Let's see if you're a power freak or if you go for the underdogs...

So I would like to see Goners first... but I suspect, based on nothing, that Wonder Woman will get released first.

Here's hoping I'm wrong.

there should be a "I think both will be made in the next year and a half" vote :)

You could kind of consider C to be that. If you figure WW's going to take over a year then add Goners-making time to that, a year and a half to two years would be about right.

Heck, it took me forever and 1 major error to come up with the 4 options as it was! I said I liked polls, not that I was good at making them...

Altho I did submit a couple of great polls at browncoats b4 they shut it down - but too late to be posted.

I have a feeling Wonder Woman will be the first one finished, and I can't wait. It'll be nice to see a serious approach to a classic comic character. It's like the Blue Beetle said in a comic last year in Countdown to Infinite Crisis, "One thing everyone knew, but no one realized, was that we were all in love with Diana." She's the hottest chick on the planet, can't wait to see what Joss does with it.

Goners could be made at the same time, or shortly thereafter. Directors do that sort of thing all the time (look at Spielberg or Ridley Scott)

I want all the other fun stuff to start - the who's in it, the location reports, the who'll be doing the music, the posters, the early screenings, the trailers, the preview etc. I mean, I already feel involved....but we might have to wait (oh dear) years!

Me too! It is so much fun to be involved in the pre-release stages. :)

edited - and I'd take being involved in either, frankly - I just want something to start moving on these!

It should be good for the film as well to begin planting the seeds that draw interest and grow into a swelling fan base.

I want "Goners" first, but I think that it will take WW falling through to make this happen, hence my vote for "Next year, when the Wonder Woman production falls apart again."
But anything made by Joss would be good! :)

I believe Goners will be first. If the funding comes through. After all, Mia has a website....WonderWoman the Movie does not, although there are sites for the tv show and the comics. So someone is setting up a fan base for Goners?...oh, wait, that would be us!

IMDB lists WW as 2007 and Goners as 2006. (yes, it is subject to change)

It's been like that since they were first posted. Possibly because Universal has already okayed the Goners script? If we didn't have to wait for Joss to write WW, we'd be halfway thru production already! (But I just can't force myself to hate WW - too many fond memories of the series. :) )

If Universal has already 'okayed' the Goners script then why isn't it being cast and filmed? Why do we have to wait for WW to be written? I may have missed a memo.

I'm pretty sure we don't know for sure, sort of.

My thinking is that WW takes priority for some reason - maybe he signed something there first that it'd be his next thing? Goners was a spec script, also, so nobody told him he had to have it by now or then or anytime in between. Unlike WW which is taking him an inordinately* long time to write.

So Goners has to wait until the WW script is finished. I guess. Maybe.

(*I love that word! It just rolls off the tongue and actually sounds exactly like inordinately should sound like.)

Maybe Joss is going to write, direct, produce and star in WW? Of course I've had the flu, that could just be all the lightheadedness talking.

silvius

I'll defer to the experts here, but Wonder Woman strikes me as the sort of project that will spend an awfully long time in pre-production, whereas Goners sounds as if it's already fully realised and something that could be begun and completed in very quick time.
Please note: I am an optimist - to me the cup is always half full....
Extra note: I'd love to see Wonder Woman too, it's just that with Goners I feel....commited...

jjnado
02-02-2006, 01:56 PM
lol, well, as a comics fan, i would hope ww has a bigger budget and pre-production/post-production time than goners. if goners is anything like joss is making it sound, it's going to be a very "joss" film....which means character-centric...not that ww by joss won't be, but you know the studio is gonna throw him big bucks to make ww...whereas goners will be a full joss creation...jj

We do? Are you referring to:

Joss posted this on Whedonesque;

Seriously, what up? I'm pounding the keys (as opposed to staring at them, thank God) on my Amazon movie (which is totally my own idea and not somebody else's from a comic) called Wondrous Lady. Problem: third act. Solution: Cooking class! Yep, I've still got it.

Roll call:

Spike movie! Still trying.
Buffy comics! Wrote ish one, fun fun fun. Looking for a penciller.
Serenity comics: Brett and I have been very very busy and it's rude of you to bring it up. But it's gonna be tight!
Serenity sequel! My phone is silent and withdrawn.
Wondy Gal! It's all about momentum, baby. And cooking class.
Goners! Ready to polish after WW is complete. LOVED the speculation on the character Mia's name. Can't wait to hear what you all say about Violet. (Besides the fact that she is not in any way ultra.)
How I Met Your Mother! I'm truly addicted. "Don't be a hero, Sherbotsky!" Come ON, people!
Jack Green! He shot my two favorite movies last year. Crazy props!
Cheese! Why won't it stop flirting with me?

Always glad to have a little bit more info, but why always so much emphasis on the LITTLE! :(

*having read up on some of the other threads, yeah, obviously that's what you meant! :o*

Joss is in the UK at the moment, he is promoting the release of the "Serenity" DVD and collecting another award! This one is from the magazine "Film Focus", there is an interview from yesterday, and Goners" is mentioned. Trouble being that Joss seems to think WW is gonna be first. :(

Yes, it does seem they're (and by "they," I mean including Joss, who does have a way with torture, doesn't he?) giving us just tiny bits of information to tantalize, and then wandering off. Have thought of two reasons for this:

1. Whoever's handling the press releases for Goners is a three year old boy with Attention Deficit Disorder

2. This is a new kind of viral marketing, to set up a groundswell of buzz that can be activated when they are ready.

Number 2 seems a more likely scenario, but you never know! ;)

I was always under the impression Joss was talking about the WW script there.
Well, I hope so!

More spec. Joss mentioned in a quick interview at the Date Movie launch he hoped to have the WW script finished a few weeks later.
So maybe he will be getting into some serious Goners work soon?

Hate to double post, but...

Looking at the IMDB Goners page just now (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481738/) and now the year is 2007. No fun :(

Also, as for which movie gets made first, I believe it will be WW as it is an established franchise. Kind sad :(
although, horror movies seem in vogue these days, and with Joss' focus on characters, it could get pushed ahead.

in other words, we won't know until someone says something!

I'm only going on the same information as everyone else - but I think it's cause for optimism that Joss Whedon keeps mentioning Goners in the same breath as WW - it's obvious he loves them both and that one isn't going to suffer because of the other.
My bet (hear the hoots of laughter from anyone who has ever played card with me) for what it's worth (not much - see brackets above) is that Goners will get made first while the complex preproduction of the (bound to be brilliant when it appears) WW grinds on!

Sure hope you're right, silvius! WW will probably be wonderful, of course...but Goners will be Joss, all Joss, which is what makes it so exciting and intriguing. *crosses fingers that silvius is right, whatever the card-playing friends may say*:)

I found a short interview with Joss on a UK sit e today, nothing specifically said about Goners, but I loved the last comment at the bottom of the page:

What scares you?

Standard scary things-zombies, insects, things behind doors. The big thing that scares me though is the knowledge that we are ultimately alone.

I think he is talking about our project, it seems far closer to his heart than WW!

Yes, and it's something that's seems to color every one of his projects - putting off that ultimate isolation by creating our own little community, whether it's composed of family, friends, offline, online - doesn't matter.

It wouldn't surprise me if Mia started off alone, gained her own little community, then lost them all again to end up even more lost and alone. http://www.fans.gonersmovie.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Cuz that is the ultimate horror in life.

I would agree with you there. I gave Joss' comment a little more thought after posting this and couldn't help but be hit by the theme running through Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity. The loneliness of command seems to shine out. And I think everyone of his characters has at least one episode that leaves them as an outsider, alone. Perhaps not so much with the Serenifly 'verse because it was cut short, but given time we would of seen all of them alienated at some point. Even with WW I expect Joss will explore her loneliness as a stranger to western life, her being outside and needing to be "Not Alone", but I think Goners will perhaps show us far more of Joss and his dark side than any other project. Which is why I want it NOW!  ;)

I've been rather preoccupied with Serenity this week (indeed, I was going to post some thoughts about its success - commercial, critical, artistic etc. but they were pretty incomrehensible even to me(!)....they contained the phrase - the multiplexes of September - Which sounds like a title for something) -

Where was I, oh yes, one of the great things about Serenity was the direction - the thoughtfulness, intelligence and plain old joy displayed - I can't wait to find out what happens when Joss Whedon uses his talent to really SCARE us!

sandyg
03-03-2006, 04:44 PM
Exactly! And he has said that Goners will be much more scary than his other work. Although it will have humor in it as well, because no-one can balance that like Joss! *Continues waiting for Joss to tell us more about Goners. But has stopped holding breath*

Just posting a link to a short video interview with Joss at the SLiTHER premiere, Goners gets a brief mention towards the end, sounds like Joss is gonna be doing a few tweaks to Goners when he finishes his WW script. Link here. (http://movies.about.com/od/moviesinproduction/v/wonder030906.htm)

*takes deep breath*

ok, so not a lot to go on. But according to His Jossness, WW is days from being finished - which could mean now. In fact, my spidey sesnes are tingling. Yes, right, thank you senses. Joss has typed the last word of WW, right at this very moment of posting, which strangely is 'scar'.
But I degress...

So he is doing a rewrite? I wonder what the problems were. Hmmm.
Maybe the bikini wearing, gun toting, chain smoking pineapple saying 'whatup bitches' wasn't appropriate. I can see Joss talking to the Uni Exec's....
'Joss, this is fantastic! But we do have some reservations about the pineapple...'
'Hey, Loyyd will be a instant classic. It's what the kids want, bitches!'
Yet again, I degress....

In fact, let's close this post up completely. I can hear the Bouncy Pillow Room calling me...

Heres a link to an interview with Joel Silver. (http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=13588) Though it is mostly to promote V for Vendetta the last paragraph gives us some idea as to the time-frame that he has in mind for WW.
CS: What other projects are you working on, and what is going on with the remake of "Logan's Run" and the "Wonder Woman" movie?
Silver: The next one up is "The Reaping" with Hilary Swank, directed by Steven Hopkins, which is kind of a supernatural thriller, and that'll be out in the summer, and "The Visiting" will be out either in the fall or in the new year. That's with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. And then I'm starting a picture in June in New York with Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard, directed by Neil Jordan, called "The Brave One". I have all these muscular, strong talented women, and those pictures are very active. "Logan's" we're trying to put together now which will hopefully go in the fall with Bryan Singer directing it, and Joss Whedon is writing and hopefully, we'll have a script very soon on "Wonder Woman", and I want to make that, too.
Looks like Joel isn't thinking about starting in on WW 'til very late on in the year, so maybe Goners will go ahead first! :)
